Culture Shock

Ok, it's been "a while" since I've written anything in here. But I blame the culture shock. I've been in Kuching about one month now and I think I'm somewhere between honeymoon phase and negotiation. First two weeks everything was new, different and exiting. It took a while to get used to the climate, food and the people, who stared at us wherever we went and strangers said hi to us, and someone even offered us a ride home. :D The staring part was just weird at first, then it became annoying but I think now it just feels normal. It is not that people mean to be rude, they are just really really curious I think. The culture shock hasn't been that bad for me though as I had quite good idea of what to expect when I arrived here.

What it comes to food, it would be SO much cheaper to eat out every day than cook at home. Unfortunately the food is basically just rice and noodles(which I COULD eat every day though) and if you want anything else than that you need to cook yourself. Just simple products like lettuce and tomatoes seem to be very expensive and hard to find.

But what I have been up to then? Basically just getting used to the student life here and met the nicest people: there's been birthday parties, house parties, ladies nights and then there was the legendary trip to the police station where the immigration authorities took us from a nightclub because we didn't have our passports with us. Nevertheless the night ended well and no one needed to spend the night at the jail. And yes,I've been doing some studying too. :D

And then some random pictures from the past month...

This is where I live!

Jessica's B-day party @ Basaga

Weekend trip to Damai beach resort with Anu (and Minni behind the camera)

Kuching City hall

A little walk in the park, where we had minor mud accident...

So this week we are planning to have another house party since we have a new table in the front yard(!!!) and the mid-semester break is in two weeks which means that my friend Emmi is coming over and we are heading to Singapore and Penang!

And listen to this, such a good song (and they are playing in Ilosaarirock in July!):
